About Oliver Tam Scales-Copeland

Oliver Tam Scales-Copeland is originally from Sydney and is now based in Orange, Australia. He is a freelance musician who composes, produces, and performs various music genres—from rock to metal and funk—and is currently in the process of producing a progressive metal-style album slated for release. His EP is being released in staggered events, with one song out each week.

Oliver has recorded many different genres of music that have been produced as practice compositions. These are available on YouTube under the channel @oliverscope.

A Musical Prodigy

Music has been an integral part of Oliver’s entire life. From an early age, he exemplified an interest in music, a focused sense of pitch and rhythm, a strong memory for music styles, exceptional creativity, a real emotional connection to music, and a focus and desire to practice and play.

Oliver picked up the guitar at the age of four and studied it throughout high school and university. He plays acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, along with drums. Oliver is also a vocalist.

Oliver Scales Copeland has played in a range of bands, including with the prestigious Sydney Region Band (now called the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds ensemble) at ages 12 and 13. Students from all over Greater Sydney auditioned to form the 100+ piece concert band. The band has routinely performed at significant performance venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Angel Place, Sydney Town Hall, Parliament House, Verbrugghen Hall, and the Sydney Entertainment Centre, as well as representing the Department of Education at official occasions across Sydney.

Oliver also placed first in his music class in his junior and senior years of high school.  

Oliver Performed at the Iconic Sydney Opera House

Indeed, Oliver’s musical talent took him to the famed Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall, where he performed with the Sydney Region Band. The Sydney Opera House is a masterpiece of twentieth-century architecture that combines various areas of creativity and invention. The Sydney Town Hall is a 19th-century civic building renowned for its high Victorian interiors and rich decoration. It hosts concerts, gala dinners, and other events.

Oliver also performed at the Metro Theatre, a music venue on George Street in Sydney, with the band Aurox, which is known for bringing a brand-new rock sound to the local music scene.

Working In His Home Studio

Oliver composes and records original compositions in his home studio in Orange. In the future, he plans to open a commercial music studio, where he will offer audio engineering and production, as well as his talent and skills as a session musician.

His Studies and Education

Oliver studied at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM), the country’s leading private education provider specializing in music, honing his skills. AIM offers students all music disciplines—from writing to creating, performing, producing, managing, and promoting. He also has studied for a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, a global top 20 school.

Oliver is furthering his education as a student at TAFE NSW, one of Australia’s leading vocational education and training providers with more than 100 years of experience. He is working on getting his Certificate III of Entrepreneurship and New Business, which fits perfectly with his plans to own and run a commercial music studio.

His Passions Go Beyond Music

In addition to his love and talent for music composition, performance, and audio engineeringOliver’s passions include art, weightlifting, Muay Thai kickboxing, yoga, Tai Chi, running, and chess. He has two third-place medals in beginner martial arts competitions. Martial Arts provides Oliver with increased confidence, which translates into all aspects of his life, self-discipline, and focus, in addition to physical benefits, such as a full-body workout, increased flexibility, and improved coordination.

Oliver’s Work Experience

Oliver has worked as a barista and barista trainer at Rainbow Serpent Café and as a food deliverer and Customer Service Representative at Foodora. As a CSR with Foodora, he addressed and handled customer complaints and was responsible for the administration and processing of information into computer systems. He also worked in demolition at Tycen Demolitions, where he safely salvaged or demolished building materials on both commercial and residential sites.

In his various jobs, while also attending school, Oliver’s employers appreciated his strong communication skills, ability to engage customers, and reliability, efficiency, and problem-solving skills.

Oliver’s Charitable Work

Oliver Tam Scales-Copeland has donated to several charitable organizations, including Oxfam, which provides families with lifesaving essentials in 75-plus countries worldwide; the Salvation Army; and Ozharvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organization. Ozharvest saves surplus food from ending up in landfills and delivers it to charities that help feed people in need.

Oliver has also volunteered at Lentil As Anything, a group of pay-what-you-want nonprofit vegetarian and vegan Australian restaurants, and the Rainbow Serpent coffee cart in Little Bay.
